Dr Sinikka Suominen is an Adjunct Professor and Chief of Department at the Plastic Surgery Department at the Helsinki University Hospital.
She completed her medical training in Helsinki, specializing both in General surgery and Plastic Surgery. She defended her PhD thesis on “Complications in Free Flap Surgery” 1997, did a Microsurgery Fellowship at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan 1999-2000 and was appointed as Adjunct Professor in Helsinki University 2007.
She has been both President of the Finnish and Scandinavian Associations of Plastic Surgeons, member of EURAPS Exco and the Treasurer of ESPRAS. She is a founding member of the Pyrenean workshop on Plastic Surgery. She is an Educational Coordinator of the International Master’s Degree in Reconstructive Microsurgery program (Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona) since 2009 and now co-Director.
Her main fields of interests are Breast reconstruction, Lymphoedema and supermicrosurgery, Facial paralysis, Head and Neck Surgery and Genital reconstruction. She has contributed on 12 book chapters, 35 original articles, 9 review articles and given more than 70 invited international lectures.
