Tuija Yla-Kotola is working as a Senior Consultant in the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Helsinki University Hospital, Finland. Her main interests in reconstructive surgery are facial paralysis as well as head and neck oncological reconstructions. She attained her medical degree at the Helsinki University, Finland and thereafter completed her general surgery training. After that, she continued to train in plastic surgery at the Helsinki University Hospital. She successfully defended her PhD thesis on nerve grafts in facial reanimation” in 2008. “Microneurovascular free muscle transfer with cross-over Dr Yla-Kotola completed her microsurgical training in Toronto, Canada working as a clinical fellow in reconstructive microsurgery 2009-2010 at the University Health Network, Toronto University. The fellowship included mostly breast, head and neck, sarcoma and nasal. Her publications and lectures are mostly in the fields of facial paralysis, nerve research and head and reconstruction.
